Seventh Stage Theatre Productions is a professional not-for-profit theatre company that produces socially and politically conscious, thought-provoking and entertaining works by way of Canadian premieres of international work or premieres of new Canadian work. We place particular importance on telling stories by women, about women and for everyone; as well as generating opportunities for emerging and established female artists both on and off stage.

Seventh Stage was founded in 2006 by Melissa-Jane Shaw, with the idea of creating more exciting and challenging work for under-represented artists in the industry, namely women. At that time it was a three-tiered company, which has since been divided into three separately functioning companies: Seventh Stage Theatre Productions being one of them.

In 2008 MJ brought Kelly Straughan on as Artistic Director of Seventh Stage Theatre, and recruited a Board of Directors. We now have a wonderful community following and continue to evolve and explore new ways of growing into a Canadian cultural staple that produces poignant quality work.
